T. Vincent Gaffey, age 96, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established.

Vince was born May 25, 1914 in Fenton, Illinois, the son of Mike and Anna (Daley) Gaffey. He grew up on a farm and attended country school. On November 21, 1936, Vince married Alice Geise, that union brought forth two children. Family was most important to Vince.

Vince and Alice were partners in the Red & White Grocery Stores in Savanna and Fulton, Illinois until 1951. In 1950 they also began as dealers in Nutrilite Food Supplements. Around 1959 they began building an Amway distributorship which became one of the largest Amway organizations in the country, today known as Gaffey & Gaffey. Vince was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He and Alice enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends.

Vince will be deeply missed by his son, Thomas M. (Mary Jane) Gaffey of Savanna; his daughter, Mary Jo Gaffey McDonnell of Savanna; five grandchildren, Diane (Jeff) Jones of Sibley, Thomas McDonnell of Bloomington, John (Sarah) McDonnell of Peoria, Dana (Marty) Wood of Yorkville and Daneen (Chuck) Van Hyning of Yorkville, ten great-grandchildren, Amber (Sterling) Daniels of Ankeny, IA, April Friesner of Savanna, Joe, Jessica and Jimmy Jones of Sibley, Loren and Nolan Wood of Yorkville, Eden and Ella Van Hyning of Yorkville, and Maddie McDonnell of Bloomington; and three great-great grandchildren, Aliyah Friesner, Taryn Daniels and Bria Daniels, all of Ankeny, IA.

Vince was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; a son in-law, Tom McDonnell; a daughter in-law, Debbie Gaffey; two granddaughters, Darcy McDonnell and Danell Friesner; three great grandsons, Dusty Freisner, and Grahm Thomas and Emmitt Charles Van Hyning; and his sister, Gladys Chapin.
