Susan Kay Welch

Susan Kay Welch passed away peacefully Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11am Friday, April 24, 2026 at Law Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 - 7pm Thursday, April 23 at the Funeral Home.

Susan was born December 20, 1948. Raised on a family farm near Sabula, Susan carried a strong work ethic, a lifelong love of animals—especially dogs—and a deep appreciation for simple country life.

After going to country school, Susan graduated Miles High School, Class of 1967. It was on a set-up date that Susan met the love of her life, Otis Welch. They married May 18, 1974; raised two sons, Ryan and Shane; and celebrated 52 years together.

Susan’s greatest joy was family. A devoted mother and doting grandmother, she was always present at school events and family gatherings, delighting in time with her grandchildren Otis, Shane (Finley), Justis, and Tayla. She loved baking holiday treats, scrapbooking memories, and sharing stories from her travels.

She trained and worked as a medical technologist, quietly providing vital lab work with care and precision.

She is survived by her husband, Otis Welch of Sabula; two sons, Ryan Leon (Andrea) Welch of Clinton, and Shane Welch of Sabula; four grandchildren, extended family, and many friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents.
