Stuart William Wilson, age 85 of Miles, Iowa died on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at First United Presbyterian Church, Miles. Burial will take place in Miles Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Miles American Legion Post# 677. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 at First United Presbyterian Church, Miles. A memorial fund has been established in Stuart’s memory.
Stuart was born on April 28, 1931, the son of Melvin and Aleida (Biss) Wilson in the family home on the farm in rural Miles, Iowa. He attended Miles High School and graduated with the Class of 1948. He attended one year of college at the University of Iowa before he was drafted in 1953. Stuart proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years, serving in France. Stuart married the love of his life, Jeanette Frahm on June 29, 1952 in the First United Presbyterian Church, Miles.
Stuart farmed his entire life in the Miles, Iowa area. Stuart loved farming, a love he shared with his son. Stuart served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Jackson County Cattlemen. He was recognized for his hard work and was awarded the Hall of Fame Award in 2008. Stuart was a lifelong member of the First United Presbyterian Church, where he was a past elder and trustee. He was also a mentor for Kids Hope in Miles. Stuart was a talented musician; playing the cornet, singing in the church choir and singing for many weddings and funerals throughout the years. He also sang in the Country Chorale Music Group. Stuart enjoyed spending time with his friends, especially the PMC Coffee Club. He treasured his family most of all and loved attending his grandchildren’s school, sporting events, and cattle shows.
Stuart will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Jeanette; one daughter, Laura (Tom) Robinson of Coggon, Iowa; one son, John Wilson of Miles; four grandchildren, Kara (Jamie) Johnson, Lauren (Brian) England, Katie (Greg) Bopes, and Charlie (Deven King) Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Silas, Oliver, Maddox, Jonas, Madeline, and two more on the way; one brother, Rodney (Lola) Wilson of Miles; and one sister-in-law, Dee Wilson of Clinton, Iowa.
Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Bruce (Alice) Wilson.
