Steve Hebeler, age 65, of Thomson, Illinois died on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa.
A celebration of Steve’s life is scheduled for Saturday, March 31st from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Sandtrap Sports Bar in Thomson, Illinois. Burial will take place at a later date in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Village of Thomson/Library Park Fund, 2100 Market Street, P.O. Steve was born on August 15, 1952, the son of Kenneth and Ida (Lambert) Hebeler in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Thomson High School and graduated with the Class of 1970. Steve worked at Sullivan’s Grocery Store in Savanna for over twenty years. He loved sports, especially baseball, softball, and basketball. For over twenty years, Steve devoted his free time to coaching local youth sports teams. Among the teams he coached included the Geneseo Hurricane softball team, Legion baseball teams, and other Thomson based softball teams. He also served as assistant coach to the Thomson High School softball team for several years. He was an avid Chicago White Sox and The Fighting Illini Basketball fan. Steve was a simple man and was devoted to his friends and family, especially his mother, Ida.
Steve will be dearly missed by his mother, Ida Hebeler of Thomson; two sisters, Janet Hebeler of Hanford, California, and Penny (Jack) Schlanser of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister in-law, Pam Hebeler of Fulton, Illinois; one niece, Emily (Kyle) Ambroso; two nephews, Chris (Tara) Hebeler, and Martey (DJ) Hebeler; one great nephew, Arnie Ambroso; and one great niece, Hailey Hebeler, and his well-fed cat Sox. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; and two brothers, Rick and Ron Hebeler.
