Shirley Ann Hartman loved spending time with her family, especially fishing trips up north with her children. Shirley passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Anthony O.S.F. Medical Center, Rockford, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 14, 2014 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A memorial has been established in Shirley’s memory.
Shirley was born on April 29, 1935, the daughter of Fred and Charlotte (Eads) Krughel in Clinton, Iowa. She was raised in Clinton and attended Clinton High School. She married Norris L. Hartman on June 4, 1964 in Geneva, Illinois. Norris died on April 14, 2008 in Clinton.
In her younger years, Shirley was a homemaker who raised seven children. After they were older, she went to work for Lord Baltimore International Paper in Clinton and later retired from General Electric in Morrison. While employed at GE, Shirley enjoyed participating in the GEM Club and was the second shift GEM Club Vice President. Shirley was a longtime member of the Argo Fay Methodist Church and loved her church community. Shirley enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, baking pies and making quilts for her family. She looked forward to participating in her local Farmer's Market and working at the church supper. Most of all, Shirley treasured spending time on the farm with her family and her dog, Peppie.
Shirley will be dearly missed by seven children; Kim (Joe) McCray of Mt. Carroll, Guy (Theresa) Pidde, Sr. of Fulton, Illinois, Kevin (Imelda) Null of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, Michelle (Mike) Murin of Grayslake, Illinois, Mindy (Tom) Ritchie of Savanna, Norris (Julie) Hartman of Fulton and Chris (John) Reiland of North Pole, Alaska; twenty-seven grandchildren, Autumn, Joseph, Heather, Christopher, Daniel, Guy Jr., Dlaine, Luke, Geri, Michelle, Stacy, Brandi Jo, Jesse, Tristin, Crystal, Olga, Richard, Megan, Sarah, Emily, Katie, Andrew, Jerritt, Mathew, Jacob, Brittney and Chelsea; thirty-seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one brother, John (Carol) Krughel of Thomson.
Shirley is preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Norris; two great grandchildren, Logan and Faith and one sister, Janet Paz.
