Sharon Kay Johnson, age 70, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at MercyOne Hospital, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Savanna. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held 4 – 8 pm Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorial may be given in her honor for the First United Presbyterian Church and the American Lung Association.
Sharon was born March 17, 1952 in Savanna, the daughter of Leonard “Mick” and Irene May (Spencer) Hebeler. She attended Chestnut Park and Center Hill schools, graduating from Savanna High School with the Class of 1970. On October 28, 1972, Sharon married Charles Henry Johnson. They raised two children, Sarah and Christopher, and have celebrated 50 years together.
Sharon loved being a Grandma to Jayson, especially making chicken & biscuits for him. She also enjoyed retirement by watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls with her longtime friend, Jimmie Shores. They would keep each other informed about the gametime and which channel to watch. Sharon loved taking summer rides with Jimmie in her convertible across the river to get ice cream.
Sharon was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Savanna where she and Charlie were active. She worked for Eaton, first in Savanna for 17 years, then in Hanover for 8 more. She then worked 18 years at Elkay in Savanna. Sharon also worked several years at the Savanna Schools in the cafeterias. She was well-liked and respected by the kids. In later years, she would often get, “Weren’t you my lunch lady?”
Sharon will be dearly missed by her husband, Charlie Johnson of Savanna; her daughter, Sarah Johnson (Ryan Bales) of Mt. Carroll; her son, Chris Johnson (Tiffany Sevey) of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania; a grandson, Jayson Johnson of Camanche, Iowa; her brother, Denny (Mary) Hebeler of Thomson; and a sister, Deb Johnson (Kenneth Ruhotzke) of Thomson, a sister-in-law, Carrie Hebeler; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jerry “Duke” and Leonard “Toot” Hebeler; and a stillborn brother, baby Richard.
