Shannon Matthew Mcdonald

Shannon Matthew McDonald, age 46, of Wilton, Iowa, formerly of Preston, Iowa, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at his parents home following a fifteen month battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston, with a rosary service held at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Preston.
Shannon was born August 18, 1965, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of John and Grace (Frazee) McDonald. He graduated from Northeast High School in Goose Lake, Iowa, with the Class of 1983. Shannon then attended Clinton Community College and graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Shannon began his teaching career at Clinton Mater Dei High School where he also coached boy’s basketball and cross - country. He then began teaching world history at Wilton High School and also coaching boy’s basketball. Shannon was very happy and proud to be a Wilton Beaver. He loved being a teacher, raising and showing shorthorn cattle, and especially spending time with his niece and nephew.
Shannon is survived and lovingly remembered by his parents, John and Grace McDonald of Preston, Iowa; one brother, Shawn (Shelly) McDonald of Preston; his niece and nephew, Connor and Makenna McDonald of Preston; one uncle, James (Trula) McDonald of Preston; and several cousins.
Shannon was preceded in death by his grandparents.
