Sandra Mangler

Sandra Mangler, 76, of Savanna, Illinois passed away at home, Sunday, November 11, 2018 surrounded by her family after a long, hard battle with breast cancer. Preceding her and ready to embrace her back home are her husband Marv, her Mom, Evelyn and Dad, Wesley, big brother, Stan and little sister, Vicki and niece Tammy, along with her paternal grandparents, Alvin and Emma Cook, and maternal grandmother, Gertrude “Ma” Grayless.

Sandra was born on July 24, 1942 to Wesley and Evelyn (Grayless) Cook. She was the third child of seven, and oldest daughter. She was the proud mother of three: Kevin (Patti) Foley, Kim (Tim) O’Neill and Kris (Mark) Diephuis. Close to her heart are her grandchildren, David (Susan) Foley and Mike Foley, Austen Diephuis, Montana Mosel, Bridget O’Neill, Samantha (Gary) Hale and her beautiful great-grandchildren, Hunter, Kilee, Ella, Luke, Gunner, Nessie, Keegan and Mila. Sandra was married to Jim Foley, and then several years later married Marv Mangler on April 17, 1970. They celebrated 21 years of marriage until Marv’s death in 1991.

Sandra attended Savanna High School. She received her associate degree from Highland Community College where she was taking night classes while working at the Savanna Army Depot. She later went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Columbia College. She became an ammunition specialist and instructor at for the Savanna Army Depot, the Rock Island Arsenal, and traveled around the world. After retiring in 1997, she became a substitute teacher for area schools. She was a devoted Community of Christ Church member.

Sandy found the greatest pleasure in spending time with family. She enjoyed playing euchre and bingo. She especially enjoyed going on the river and fishing.

Sandy will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, brother, Gary (Delores) Cook of Holmen, Wisconsin, Duane Cook of Savanna, Wesley Cook of Florennes, Belgium and sister, Terri Brien of Savanna; all her nieces and nephews, along with her fur babies, Donnie and Marie.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery.
