Sandra Kay Gray, age 76, of Miles, IA, passed away August 9, 2024, in her home with her family by her side. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 16, at First United Presbyterian Church, in Miles, at 11 a.m. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., before the service. Interment will follow at Sterling Cemetery, in rural Miles.
Sandy was born March 16, 1948, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Robert and Vivian (McPeck) Poel. During her high school years, she worked for the Bell Telephone Company, before transferring to San Diego after graduation from Clinton High School with the class of 1966.
After two years in California, she moved back to Clinton, first working an office position for Mercy Hospital, then Medical Associates, from which she retired after more than 25 years working various positions, most recently in transcription for radiology.
On August 15, 1980, Sandy married Tom Gray at the First United Presbyterian Church of Miles. Together they were active in their church and their community. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed visiting with friends and quality time spent with family. Sandy especially loved family vacations and trips where she could spend hours at the pool.
Sandy will be dearly missed by her husband of nearly 44 years Tom Gray; son, Alex (Kristin) Gray, of Sioux City; grandson, Spencer; granddaughter, Emily; and brother-in-law, David Gray, of Arlington, TX. Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vivian; daughter (infant) Audra; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lorraine and Cecelia Gray; and brother-in-law, Don (Cleo) Gray.
Sandy requested any memorial donations be made to Genesis Hospice of Davenport.
