Ruth Yavonne Wells, age 97, formerly of Hanover, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Mercy North Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Nadig – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11:00 am Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Yavonne was born May 31, 1911, in Washington Twp., rural Carroll County, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Johns) Corbett. She married Elmer Wells May 17, 1932, in Savanna. He preceded her in death July 8, 1978.
Yavonne worked for Atwoods in Stockton, Illinois, the Savanna Army Depot, Hanover Woolen Mill, and Eaton Manufacturing in Hanover. She was a member of the Hanover United Presbyterian Church, the Hanover V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and was a former member of the Savanna Women of the Moose.
Yavonne is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Tommy J. “T.J.” (Sandy) Wells of Monroe, Wisconsin; one daughter, Ruth (Larry) Kueter of Bettendorf, Iowa; one sister, Josephine Messmer of Mount Carroll, Illinois; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great – great – grandchild; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Yavonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, and a sister.
