Ruth O. Sartwell, age 87, of Manteno, Illinois and a long time resident of Savanna, Illinois passed away on October 13, 2006 at the Miller Health Care Facility, Kankakee, Illinois. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Savanna Children's Christmas Fund.
Ruth was born February 25, 1919 the daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Benz) Dannels in Savanna, Illinois. She was a 1937 graduate of Savanna High School. On July 10, 1941, Ruth married Ammon B. Sartwell in Norfolk, Virginia. Ammon passed away on November 4, 1947.
In 1943 the Sartwells bought a root beer stand which later became the Chicken Coop Drive In. The drive in, famous for its chicken was owned and operated by Mrs. Sartwell until 1970. She was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the VFW, the Wa-tan-ye Club, Navy Mothers and she was a Girl Scout Leader. Her kind and compassionate spirit was always there to help others. She was a caring and loving person to all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by three daughters; Joyce (Joe) Garcia of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Renee (Jack) Gorham of Manteno, Illinois, and Rebecca Hall of Centennial, Colorado; seven grandchildren; Kevin (Mary), Lance (Aimee) Garcia, Kristin, John Gorham, Kelly (Sean) McCloy, Arron (Lisa), Ryan (Jodi) Hall; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ginesa, Alex, & Jordon Garcia, Torrin, Marissa, & Landon Garcia, Kate & Eryn McCloy, Ransom, Stolle & Courtney Hall, Abigail & Payton Hall and one devoted brother, Robert Dannels of Savanna, Illinois.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Ambrose Dannels and Paul Dannels; and one son-in-law, Phillips Hall.
