Ruth Chumbler, age 79, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Freeport Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Freeport, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Elizabeth, Illinois. Fr. Noel Jacob will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth, Illinois. Visitation will be on Monday, March 31, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 4312 E. State; Rockford, Illinois 61108.
Ruth was born June 22, 1928, the daughter of William J. and Cecelia (McMahon) Costello in Grand Mound, Iowa. Ruth graduated from Freeport High School, and on March 29, 1948, Ruth married Lynn Chumbler in Elizabeth, Illinois. He passed away on March 22, 1976.
Ruth farmed with her husband, she ran Chumbler’s Doggie Motel on their farm near Woodbine, and worked as a Nurse for Morgan Nursing Home in Stockton, Illinois for 41 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elizabeth, and loved to paint and show her art work in Galena Art galleries. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Ruth will be dearly missed by her two sons, Robert (Claudia) Chumbler of Freeport, Illinois, Larry (Jean) Chumbler of Pocatello, Idaho; four grandsons, Chris (Shera), Jason, Robert (Michelle), and Blake; four great granddaughters, Abby, Tyler, Jasmine and Kirsten; six great grandsons, Evan, Austin, Ayden, Brenton, Brett and Daylon; a sister-in-law Ruth Kuntz of Freeport; and a special niece, Sharon Shaw also of Freeport.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn, two brothers, three sisters, and three daughters, prior to birth.
