Ruth Esther Cerveny, 90, of Savanna, IL died Jan. 7 at the Rockford Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 28, 1915 to Joseph and Emma Mikulecky in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Ruth married Louis Cerveny Nov. 22, 1941.
She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1933. She attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon and the State Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls, IA.
Ruth was a teacher for 12 years in rural schools in the Mt. Vernon and Cedar Rapids area. She later served as a substitute teacher in the Savanna and Lanark area. Before Ruth retired she worked at the Duncan Department Store in Savanna.
Ruth loved traveling, dancing, golfing and homemaking. She took pride in being a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna and enjoyed hosting her antique club and church circle.
She is survived by her husband Louis Cerveny, of Savanna; two daughters Marilou (Les) Haworth, of Elgin, Audrey (Jonathan) Nesbitt, of Sterling; brother Lester Mikulecky, of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren Mark Nesbitt, of New Glarus, WI and Sarah Nesbitt, of Normal, IL as well as one great grandchild Kayleigh Jo Nesbitt, of New Glarus, WI.
Her parents, Joseph and Emma Mikulecky and her twin brother William Mikulecky preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna with the Rev. Thomas Moe officiating with a luncheon to follow.
A visitation will be Monday Jan. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.
There will also be a visitation Wednesday Jan. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Brosh Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, IA with burial to follow at the Czech National Cemetery.
