Ruth Lanette Bormann, age 73, of Preston, Iowa died on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Jackson County Regional Medical Center, Maquoketa, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston with Father Don Hertges as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A memorial fund has been established in Ruth’s memory.
Ruth was born February 16, 1942, the daughter of Vern “Jack” and Marjorie Miller in Maquoketa, Iowa. She attended Maquoketa High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. Ruth married Allen Bormann on October 14, 1961 in Preston. They celebrated 44 years of marriage until Allen’s death on January 12, 2006.
After high school, Ruth attended cosmetology school and practiced cosmetology for a short time. She later went on to work at Beatrice Cheese as Office Manager until the factory closed—after which, she worked at Clark’s Boat in Bellevue, Iowa. Ruth owned Midtown Fashions in Preston, and was a part-owner of Preston Meats.Ruth very much enjoyed spending time with family, and adored her grandkids. She also enjoyed shopping on weekends, bowling, camping, and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Ruth will be deeply missed by her son, Todd (Misty Coleman) Bormann of Charlotte, Iowa; two daughters, Shelly (Shawn) McDonald of Preston and Brenda (Ron Hogfoss) Witt of Albert Lea, Minnesota; one sister Jo Ann Miller of Maquoketa, Iowa; one brother Verne (Violet) Miller of Bettendorf, Iowa; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her parents, Vern and Marjorie; two brothers, Richard and Dean Miller; and a brother-in-law, Lester Bormann.
