Russell "Russ" Malley

Russell “Russ” Malley, of Mt. Carroll, IL, formerly of Savanna, IL, passed away Friday, July 15, at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Savanna Township cemetery following the service.

Russ was born February 16, 1947, son of Harold and Helen (Rolfsen) Malley. He grew up in Savanna, attending Savanna schools. Russ graduated from Savanna High School with the class of 1965. Life took Russ all over; to Iowa, Texas, Florida, California, and Tennessee. He was a Savanna boy at heart, and returned to his hometown later in life.

Russ loved a good rock concert. He loved all classic rock. He liked to have a good time with friends, rocking out to his favorite music even in his later years. As a younger man Russ collected comic books. He shared his interest in comics with his nephews whenever they would visit.

Russ was always friendly, caring, and could be a little stubborn from time to time. He was the most loyal friend a person could ask for. Russ was an incredibly devoted son. He took care of his mother, and in return she took care of him. He loved dogs, especially his late mother's dog Sally. Throughout his life Russ had to deal with many physical ailments. These obstacles never got in his way, and he made a point to always enjoy the life he was given.

Russ is survived by his nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Hallaron of DeKalb, Illinois; Kenneth Hallaron of DeKalb, Illinois; Matthew (Amy Novick) Hallaron of Schaumburg, Illinois; Elaine (Rod) Howard of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; Kristine (Jeffrey) Davidson of Boonsboro, Maryland; Marjorie (Dan) Volkers of Marengo, Illinois; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Malley; his two sisters and their husbands, Joan and Jerry Hallaron and Peg and Burt Dauphin.
