Rubye L. Hill

Rubye L. Hill, Clinton, IA, formerly of Thomson, IL, 89, died peacefully at The Alverno Nursing Home on October 12, 2015. Rubye was born on September 10, 1926 to the late Clarence and Euguertha (Knight) Robinson in Ashland, Virginia. She attended grade and high school in Ashland and graduated from Virginia State University with Bachelor of Science (1947) and Masters degrees (1948) in Home Economics.
Rubye married Robert H. Hill on July 9, 1949 in Ashland, VA. They moved from Arlington, VA to Blackhawk Village (north of Savanna, IL) in 1954 when he was transferred to the Savanna Army Depot. In 1957, they moved to Thomson, IL where they lived until moving to Clinton in 2012.
Rubye retired in 1984 after 27 years of teaching home economics, 22 years in Thomson High School and five years in Arlington, VA. She spent many years as Girl Scout Leader, member of Green Hills Girl Scouts Council Board of Directors, sponsor of Thomson High School Future Homemakers of America, and member of York Baptist Church (serving on the National Board of American Baptist Churches). She was also a member of the Illinois Education Association, National Education Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society for education, in addition to being nominated for Teacher of the Year in 1973.
Rubye is survived by her husband Robert; children Michael (Linda) Hill of Libertyville, IL, Marsha (Paul) Prah of Plainfield, NJ, Marvin (Shelly) Hill of Broad Run, VA; four grandchildren, Michelle Hill, Nathan Klontz, Eric Prah, and Adam Hill; two great grandchildren, Isaac and Lucie Klontz; one sister Odessa (Ben) Thomas of Washington, D.C., and one brother Richard Robinson of Mechanicsville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at York Baptist Church, Thomson, with Reverend Steve Newell officiating. Internment will follow in Lower York Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson.
