Ruby Mae Kaufman Waller, age 73, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 in Chattanooga, TN. These last few years of her life she resided at St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Chattanooga, TN. She died March 3, 2011 as a result of medical complications following an injury she received as a passenger of a wheelchair van accident. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Barnabas Foundation @ 600 Pine St. Chattanooga, TN 37402.
Ruby was born, 1/19/1938 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She graduated from Mount Carroll HS with the Class of 1956. In 1957 Ruby married James Vern Waller and later divorced. For most of her adult life she lived and worked in Freeport, IL. She worked for Newell - Rubbermaid for over 25 years before retiring in 2000. She became involved with the Newell's Quarter Century Club and continued meeting with fellow retirees. While still working and after her kids had grown she went to Highland Community College and obtained her Associates Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. She then became an active member of the First Northwest Credit Union Board. While at Highland, she got involved with the quilting club for several years. From 2006 to present she was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Chattanooga, TN Ruby raised her three children (2 girls and 1 boy) to be independent, as well as encouraged and supported them in going after their dreams. She was a girl-scout leader while her girls were scouts. She had a passion for sewing and enjoyed making clothes for her kids, her grandchildren and other people she knew. She enjoyed reading and watching John Wayne movies. Ruby was an avid soccer fan and she would take her children into the Chicago area to watch Professional soccer games. She loved watching her grandson play while he was growing up. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her father and mother, Daniel and Myrtle Kaufman; one brother, Alfred Kaufman. Ruby is survived by three children, Terri (Scott) Wachtveitl, of Chattanooga, Neil Waller and Janette Waller, both of Renton, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kyle and Erin, of Chattanooga; one niece, Lori Jaworawski; two great-nephews, Aaron and Nicholas Jaworawski.
