Roy A. Rasmussen

Roy A. Rasmussen, age 91, of Mt. Carroll, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Lena Living Center, Lena, Illinois. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
Roy was born May 4, 1918 in Vienna, South Dakota, the son of Lawrence and Nellie (Spindle) Rasmussen. He grew up in South Dakota, and as a young man worked in a logging camp. Logging the Mississippi River bottoms brought Roy to Illinois in the 1930s. On July 4, 1947, Roy married Elvera Lucille Bauer in Galena, Illinois. She passed away May 26, 2007.
Roy worked 37 years at the Savanna Army Depot, retiring in 1971. He also farmed in the Mt. Carroll area for many years. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll and the Carroll County Farm Bureau.
Roy will be dearly missed by two sons, Robert (Jane) Rasmussen of Cedarville, Illinois and Ronald (Kathy) Rasmussen of Mt. Carroll; three daughters, Diane (Gordon) Finch of Lees Summit, Missouri, Mary Kay Dent of Windsor, Colorado and Janice Nitz of Overland Park, Kansas; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Rasmussen of Watertown, South Dakota and Martin Rasmussen of Hazel, South Dakota; two sisters, Nellie McLean and Joyce Mischke, both of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; a sister in-law, Edna Rasmussen; and a brother in-law, Mike Alexander. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvera; a brother, Leslie; and three sisters, Lillian Burt, Helen Puro and Ruth Alexander.
