Roy “Shorty” G. Nance (N9PED) liked to tell a good story and had a talent for tinkering with just about anything. He passed away at the age of 76, Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois.
Shorty worked for Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Freeport for thirty years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and amateur radio. He was happiest when telling a good story or working in Rick’s garage.
Shorty was born on August 7, 1937 in Newton, North Carolina, the son of David and Anna (Smith) Nance. He married Leanne L. Long October 26, 1963 at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Shorty served in the US Army and Army Reserve from 1960 – 1964.
Roy will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Leanne; two sons, David (Melanie) Nance of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Tom (Julie) Nance of Tomah, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Caitland, Tyler, David and Michael Nance; one brother, Donald (Hilda) Nance of Taylorsville, Tennessee, and a sister, Betty Ledford of Morristown, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Rick Douvikas. Roy is preceded in death by both parents, David and Anna; four brothers, Lester, Jack, Clyde and Bobby, and two sisters, Dorothy and Sue.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Visitation will be held 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Memorials may be given to the Hanover Fire Department, Hanover Ambulance, or Elizabeth Nursing Home.
