Roy E. Fox age 90, of rural Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. Private services will be held and cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial fund has been established in Roy’s memory.
Roy was the son of Milt and Florence (Edwards) Fox, born on December 23, 1924 in Texas County, Maples Missouri. He was united in marriage to Della Miller on May 15, 1943. To this union, four children were born, Lonnie, Susie, Larry and Melvin.
Roy and his father and brother came to Illinois from Missouri looking for work. Roy liked the way crops looked and the farming in Illinois. He decided to stay in Illinois even though his brother and father returned to Missouri. Roy worked as a box packer for the Milwaukee Railroad in Savanna for thirty-two years. He loved farming and his son Lonnie worked shifts and loved helping his father on the farm. Upon retirement he continued with farming helping his daughter and son in-law Susie and Don Meador with their farming. He also treasured the time he spent fishing, woodworking in his garage making many wood items with his wife at his side painting them and giving them to family. Roy cherished his grandchildren, great grandchildren and there visits, cards and notes.
Roy will be dearly missed by his wife, Della of Mt. Carroll; children, Lonnie (Kathy) Fox of Albany, Illinois, Susie (Don) Meador of Cape Coral, Florida, Larry (Dorothy) Fox of Central City, Iowa, Melvin Fox of Mt. Carroll; six grandchildren, Carey (Bill) Miller of Durant, Iowa, John (Jodi) Slick of Roscoe, Illinois, Kelly (Brandon Miller) Fox of Central City, Larry Fox Jr., of Central City, Todd (Jesica) Fox of Central City, Kim (Aaron) Caryl of Central City; eleven great grandchildren; several step children and grandchildren; three sisters in-law, Peggy Fox of Rolla, Missouri, Nina Fox of Hutchinson, Kansas, Ethel Stevens of Arlington, Washington and a brother in-law, Chuck Miller of Greenfield, California. Roy is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Myrtle Hill, Deane Deweese; four brothers, Ralph, Claude, Lee and Don.
