Rose Mary B. Velcich, age 79, of Lake Carroll, Illinois passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Father Michael Bolger as Celebrant. Memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for the Hospice Care of America, 483 N Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61107 or 18 W Stephenson Road, Freeport, Illinois 61032.
Rose Mary was born June 14, 1936 in Chicago, the daughter of Anthony and Bernice (Pranska) Vidinich. The Vidinich family raised twelve children. Rose Mary attended St. Willibrord Catholic School, graduating with the Class of 1948. On January 11, 1958, Rose Mary married John D. Velcich at St. Christina Parish, Chicago. John passed into Heaven July 2, 2013.
Rose Mary was a good homemaker, raising four children. She was a talented cook, and enjoyed gardening and nature. Her children describe her as, “the sweetest Mom, and their greatest friend.” “With her husband, John, they were the best parents possible.” Rose Mary loved spending time with all the family and would keep up with them on Facebook. She enjoyed playing Solitaire on her Kindle, watching the Hallmark Channel and QVC.
Rose Mary will be dearly missed by her four children, Lora A. (Srecko) Vidovich of Joliet, Mary R. (Paul) Zaryczny of LaGrange Park, Richard J. Velcich of Tinley Park and Anthony “Tony” Velcich of Lake Carroll; five grandchildren, Shannon (Cody) Cowman, Melissa (Rick) Siedel, Bryan (Valerie) Vidovich, Jacob Vidovich and Nicholas Zaryczny; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, McKinley and Annabelle; and ten bothers and sisters, Anthony (Judy) Vidinich of Alsip, Joe Vidinich of Chicago, Annette (Larry) Bard of Chicago, Diane Feager of Bourbanais, Ceal (Fred) Beyer of Oak Lawn, John (Robin) Vidinich of Chicago, Anne (Carl) Miller of Burbank, George (Sherry) Vidinich of Lake Carroll, Gerry (Paul) Gabriel of Tinley Park and Michael Vidinich of Lake Carroll. Rose Mary is preceded in death by her husband, John; both parents; and a sister, Dolores (Pete) Cook.
