Rosalind A. Boyer

June 6, 1942 — December 18, 2021

Rosalind A. Boyer, age 79, of Savanna, IL, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Big Meadows nursing home, in Savanna. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Savanna. Visitation will take place at Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, before the mass, from 9am to 10:45am. Burial will follow the mass at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. Family and friends are invited to share in Rose’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Rose was born June 6, 1942 in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Richard and Eva (Weltz) Altensey. She attended St. John Catholic School and graduated from Savanna High School with the class of 1960. On October 22, 1960, Rose married Clyde Boyer at St. John’s Catholic Church. They would go on to have two children and celebrate 59 years of marriage, before Clyde’s passing in 2020.

Rose worked a number of jobs in her lifetime, including at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, as a cook at Shimer College, and multiple factory positions. She then settled in as a lineworker at Atwoods in Mt. Carroll, retiring after 25 years.

Rose will be forever remembered as a kind-hearted, gentle soul. She devoted much of her life and attention to the lives of others, most notably her family, but also her fellow community members and her animals. One way she often chose to show her love for her family was through her baking. Her homemade fudge, chocolate treats, and of course her mayo cake, were little slices of heaven. She was proud of her community and a life-long member of St. John’s Catholic Church, and had a way with animals, especially her horses, which she raised and loved to ride. Her love for living things extended beyond just people and animals to her luscious flower gardens; her green thumb could make anything blossom. Any other free time of her’s would often be spent accessing her creative side, decorating and crafting. Rose was smart and funny, with an infectious laugh, and loved to travel. She was also a great walking partner.

Though her family grieves the loss of such a loving woman, solace and even joy can be found now that she is joining her dear Clyde, in heaven. Rose will be dearly missed by her son, Richard (Rodica) Boyer of Niles, IL; daughter, Christine (Joseph) Jensen, of Savanna, IL; three grandchildren, Justin (Erica) Rettenberger, of Temecula, CA, Abigail (Michael) Gleason, of Sullivan’s Island, SC, and Clare Boyer, of Sullivan’s Island, SC; honorary grandchild, Josh Denome; great grandchildren, Brielle Rettenberger and Evangeline Gleason; brothers, Martin (Jan) Altensey, of Savanna, IL and Matthew Altensey, of Savanna, IL; sisters, Margaret Bousman, of Savanna, IL and Natalie Marshall, of Savanna, IL; brother-in-law, Eugene Boyer; and sister-in-law, Janice Boyer. Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Eva; husband, Clyde; and brother, Richard Altensey.
