Ronald D. Schleuning, Sr., age 70 of Thomson, Illinois died on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. A memorial fund has been established.
Ron was born on January 30, 1943, the son of Harold and Mary (Harris) Schleuning in Stockton, Illinois. He married Donna Rae Lahre on February 17, 1968 in Thomson.
Ron began working for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 1969. He was a track laborer, responsible for maintaining the railroad track. He worked on the railroad for 27 years, until he was injured and retired in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and collecting memorabilia and toys of all kinds. Most of all, Ron cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Ron will be dearly missed by his wife, Donna of Thomson; one son, Ronald D. Schleuning, Jr. of Savanna, Illinois; one daughter, Teresa (William Stewart) Schleuning of Fulton, Illinois; three grandchildren, Desiree, Shelby and Devon; five brothers and sisters, Florence (Jim) Russell of Savanna, Illinois, Ken (Carol) Schleuning of Pearl City, Illinois; Dorothy Schleuning of Hanover, Illinois, Stan (Donna) Schleuning of Elizabeth, Illinois and Bill (Sandy) Schleuning of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bob, Roger and George Schleuning.
