Ronald L. Hebeler, 64, of Fulton, IL put up his final shot at the buzzer on January 13, 2018, bringing to an end a heroic effort in the face of a formidable opponent.
As Ron's final seconds ticked off the clock he was surrounded by his own all-star team:manager (wife) of 40 years Pam, daughter Emily (Kyle) Ambroso, and son Chris (Tara) Hebeler, grandson Arnie Ambroso and granddaughter Hailey Hebeler. He is also survived by his biggest fans - mother Ida Hebeler of Thomson; brother Steve Hebeler of Thomson; sisters Janet Hebeler of Hanford, California and Penny (Jack) Schlanser of Indianapolis, Indiana, nephew Martey (DJ) Hebeler of Emporia, Kansas and a cheering section of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Exiting the game before him are father, Kenneth, and brother, Rick.
Ron graduated from Thomson High School in 1972 and was a proud member of the school's 1972 4th place state basketball team. He worked 38 years at Exelon Nuclear Power in Cordova, IL, retiring as the Environmental/Rad Waste Supervisor. Never one to sit long on the sideline, Ron enjoyed playing basketball, softball and countless rounds of golf.
Per Ron’s wishes, a private family burial service will be held. A celebration of Ron’s life is scheduled for Saturday, January 27 from 4:30 - 7:30pm at Manny's in Savanna. Memorials may be given to the family in Ron’s memory.
Ron will be dearly missed by his family and friends who will remember him for his strength and determination. They find comfort in knowing, as legendary UCLA coach John Wooden once said, "Players with fight never lose a game. They just run out of time."
