Ronald Dean Holm

Ronald Dean Holm, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away on January 1, 2024 at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will take place Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., as well as one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Ron was born June 18, 1935, in Clinton, IA, the son of Harold and Minnie (Galtiz) Holm. He attended Mt. Carroll schools and began his lifelong work in the milk industry at the Mt. Carroll Creamery. On August 8, 1953, Ron married Barbara Geronzin. They would go on to have three children and enjoy 64 years of marriage before her passing in 2018.

It wasn’t long before Ron began hauling milk cans for Kraft. A few years later he switched to bulk tanks and kept hauling for Kraft for more than 40 years. In 1963, Ron moved his family to a small farm just outside of Mt. Carroll. He continued to work his milk hauling job while also finding time to farm his acreage. Never one to let one job get in the way of another, Ron also sold seed corn for Northrup King, and would plow snow in the winter. He was a hardworking man, always taking every opportunity to provide for his family.

Ron was a member of the First Lutheran Church, in Mt. Carroll, and the Moose Lodge. He loved collecting and driving his antique automobiles and enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also enjoyed collecting beer signs and showing them to his friends. In their younger years, Ron and his bride enjoyed attending local dances and socializing with their friends. As they grew a bit older, they still found time to enjoy couples card nights.

Ron will be dearly missed by his son, Rodney (Holly) Holm, of Driftwood, TX; daughter, Tina (Gerald) Libberton, of Savanna, IL; seven grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Holm, of Indiana; son-in-law, Rev. Robert Downs, of Highland, IL; and brother-in-law Gene Boyer, of Grandview, IL. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Minnie; wife, Barbara; daughter, JoAnn Downs; brother, Richard Holm; and sister, Betty Boyer.
