Ronald Hoenicke

Ronald Ray Hoenicke, age 68, of Preston, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009 at St John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston with Reverend Gregory Geier officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2009 at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Burial will take place in Preston Cemetery, Preston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society in Ron’s memory.

Ron was born on July 17, 1941, the son of Phillip and Florence (Daniels) Hoenicke in Clinton, Iowa. He graduated from Preston High School with the Class of 1958. Ron married Dorothy Ann Colson on May 19, 1962 in Clinton, Iowa.

Ron worked as a beekeeper and for Clinton Engine, Maquoketa for several years. He then worked for Ralston Purina in Clinton for 31 years, retiring in 2004. Ron loved sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed going to high school sporting events, playing Keno and fishing. Most of all, Ron cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Ron will be dearly missed by his wife, Dorothy of Preston; a daughter, Teresa (Dan) Thiede of Clinton, Iowa; a son, Paul Hoenicke of Clinton, Iowa; three grandchildren, Makenzie, Madeline, and Lucas; and two sisters, Doris Strom of Preston and Jane (Robert) Nie of Sterling, Illinois. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
