Ronald C. Hammond

August 8, 1953 — January 15, 2026

Dubuque, IA

Ronald C. Hammond, 72, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 15, 2026. A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Ronald was born on August 8, 1953, the son of Roy and Lucille (Miller) Hammond. He was raised in Preston, Iowa, where he attended local schools and graduated from Preston High School with the Class of 1972.

Shortly after graduation, Ron followed the call of the coast, moving to Florida to enjoy his youth in the sun. During his years there, he became a "jack-of-all-trades," picking up a diverse array of skills ranging from landscaping and boat washing to the art of candle making. Though he enjoyed the Florida lifestyle, he eventually returned to Iowa to be closer to the family he held so dear. Ronald married Claudia Beltran later in life. Though they eventually separated, they remained close and supportive friends throughout the years.

Ron dedicated many years of his professional life to wine sales and distribution. His expertise was more than just a career; it was a passion. He truly enjoyed a fine glass of wine and could always be counted on to bring the perfect bottle to any family function.

A man of many interests, Ron was a devoted music enthusiast. He possessed a vast and eclectic taste, listening to "a little bit of everything" and amassing a collection of thousands of albums over his lifetime. He found peace in the outdoors and the quiet of the country, often taking long walks to clear his mind. In his later years, one of his simplest and greatest joys was sitting in his recliner by the big window, watching the hummingbirds by the feeders.

While Ron was a private man by nature, he was a true "character" who could become the life of the party in the right company. He had a sharp wit and a mischievous streak, famously loving a good joke or a well-played prank. Above all else, Ron’s heart belonged to his family. He cherished the time he spent with his nieces and nephews, who will remember him for his humor and his unwavering love.

He will be dearly missed by his four siblings: Garry (Marijane) Hammond of St. Joseph, MO; Richard Hammond of Bellingham, WA; Marly (Michael) Horton of Clinton, IA; and Marcia (Matt) Reiff of Preston, IA. He also leaves behind 8 nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cousins.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lucille, and his beloved nephew, Corporal Zachary Reiff.
