Ronald “Ron” Dauphin, age 67, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Methodist Hospital, Peoria, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be given in Ron’s honor for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice of Unity Point at Methodist Hospital.
Ron was born December 9, 1948 in Savanna, the son of Ben and LaVerne (Russell) Dauphin. He is a 1967 graduate of Savanna High School, where he was a good athlete. Ron attended UW at Platteville and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Education. He also took Master courses at Western Illinois University. From his first marriage he helped raise three children, Andy, Tim and Cristy, often coaching them in youth sports. “He was a good Father.” Ron taught school and coached basketball and track at Challand Middle School in Sterling for many years. Earlier he had taught at the Como Emerson Galt School for five years. During and after teaching, Ron farmed near Savanna.
Ron loved his fiancé, Pam Miller, and cherished the years they spent traveling to visit friends at Texas, Florida, Branson, Missouri and fishing in Northern Wisconsin. His family describes him as loving, strong, in-charge, thoughtful and always interested in what they were doing. He followed his grandchildren’s sports closely. Ron enjoyed talking politics, always taking a conservative approach. He also enjoyed hunting and playing cards with friends and family.
Ron will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Pam Miller of Savanna; three children, Andy (Melissa) Dauphin of Savanna, Tim (Jamie) Dauphin of Morrison, and Cristy Dauphin of Bettendorf, Iowa; two step-children, Melinda Miller of Morrison and Chad Miller of Woodbury, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Jacob, Maddie, Riley, Thomas, Olivia and Kaeden. Ron is preceded in death by both parents and several Aunts and Uncles.
