Ron was born on July 13, 1941, the son of Harry and Virginia (Seiple) Charneski. A lifelong resident of Savanna, he attended local schools and was a proud graduate of the Savanna High School Class of 1959.
On October 12, 1963, Ron married the love of his life, Linda Sturtevant. Together, they built a life centered on family, raising two sons and celebrating 60 beautiful years of marriage before Linda’s passing.
A dedicated worker, Ron spent his entire professional life on the railroad. He began his career at the roundhouse in Savanna and worked his way through the ranks to retire as a Mechanical Foreman. Ron also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Savanna Fire Dept.
Retirement didn't mean slowing down; Ron was a man who loved working with his hands. Whether he was tinkering in his shop or simply rearranging his treasures between his four sheds, he was always in motion.
Ron found his greatest peace in the great outdoors. When his sons were young, the family frequenting camping, hunting, and fishing trips, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He was a passionate fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears, especially when he could share the excitement with Linda.
While Ron could be described as a little "rough around the edges," those who knew him best knew he possessed a true heart of gold. He expressed his love through his actions and his presence, especially when it came to his grandchildren.
Ron will be dearly missed by his two sons, Brad (Katherine) Charneski of Sterling Heights, MI, and Joey Charneski; his three cherished granddaughters, Olivia, Hazel, and Hadley; his siblings, Letha (Tom) Robbe and Bob (Melody) Charneski, both of Savanna; and one nephew and three nieces.
Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda; his parents, Harry and Virginia; and his faithful dog and companion, Josie.
