Ronald L. “Carp” Allen Sr., age 73, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at his home. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth with military rites accorded by the Hanover V.F.W Post# 5300. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Carp’s memory. Carp was born on June 25, 1935, in Elizabeth, the son of LeRoy R. and Anna S. (Bingham) Allen. He first attended Allen School House, rural Elizabeth and later played basketball and graduated from Elizabeth High School with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Carp joined the United States Army and served from 1954-1956. Carp married Sandra Crimmins on September 30, 1961 in Galena, Illinois. Carp was employed for several years by the Chicago Great Western Railroad, located in Oelwein/Waterloo, Iowa. He was also a farmhand for Getz Cattle Farms, Elizabeth and was involved in the construction of the Galena Territories, Galena, Illinois. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Carp was awarded the “Shoot the Bull” Hall of Fame Award on October 13, 2001. He also enjoyed hunting and trapping raccoons, fishing and playing horseshoes. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and playing cards, especially Euchre.Carp will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandra of Elizabeth; two daughters, Martha (Kenny) Whitmer and Brenda Allen, both of Elizabeth; five sons, Randy Allen, Rick (Sharon) Allen, Rocky (Margie) Allen, Russell (Connie) Allen, all of Elizabeth, and Ronald “Guppy” (Kristy) Allen of Scales Mound, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren, Tyler, Trent, Trevor, Jamie, Mitch, Colton, Riley, Kylyn, Trey, Tabria, Ray, Roy, and Caylee; three step-grandsons, Steven, Caleb, and Troy; two step-granddaughters, Tiffany and Katlyn; two brothers, William (Cheryl) Allen of Galena, and Maury (Cheryl) Allen of Hazel Green, Wisconsin; and one sister in-law, Cherryll Allen of Roseville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.Carp was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons; one sister, Betty Allen; and one brother, Donald Allen.
