Roger Thietje

June 15, 1942 — July 30, 2016

After a life of selfless commitment to his family, friends and community, Roger W. Thietje passed away at the age of 74, Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., prior to the celebration of life service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Roger’s memory with the funds being donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, American Heart Association and Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
Roger was born June 15, 1942 in Gackle, North Dakota, the son of William and Otilla Bier. After his parents passed away he was adopted and raised by Fred and Verda (Frank) Thietje. He attended West Point High School in West Point Nebraska, graduating with the Class 1960. After high school, Roger went on to attend DeVry Technical School in Chicago, Illinois graduating with a degree in Electronics. Roger worked for AT&T managing the 800 number service in Chicago, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the McHenry Area Volunteer Rescue for ten years, and became a paramedic during that time.
On January 26, 1964, Roger married the love of his life, Linda MacFarlane in Chicago. They celebrated 52 years together. Roger enjoyed fishing, boating, snowmobiling, computer games, CB radios, tractors, Western movies, spending winters in Florida, fixing things for family and friends. Most of all, Roger cherished the time he spent with his family.
Roger will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda of Thomson, Illinois; daughter, Karen Egolf of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; son, Brian (Verna) Thietje of Ava, Illinois; five grandchildren, Danielle, Ian, Jim, Tyler, Eric; a brother, Albert Bier; two sisters, Veiona (Dan) Fiala and Darlene (Lloyd) Elsner. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott (Kim); a brother, Marvin Ruether, and a sister Doris Weber.
