Roger W. Struve, 72, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at his home in Sabula, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Sabula, Iowa, with Pastor Robert Krueger of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula officiating. Inurnment will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa with Military Rites accorded by the Sabula Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5234. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home, prior to the service.
Roger was born on December 7, 1934 the son of Harvey and Bernice (Rogers) Struve in Hauntown, Iowa. He attended Elk River Country School #8, near Almont, Iowa. Roger served as a Paratrooper in the United States Army Airbourne Division during the Korean War. In 1957, he married Carol Tallman.
Roger worked as a pipefitter/welder out of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local #66 of Dubuque, Iowa; he farmed; and owned and operated a sawmill near Sabula, until retirement. He held membership in the Sabula Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5234; the American Rifelman Association and Duck’s Unlimited.
Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and snowmobiling. He taught his family to enjoy life to the fullest, everyday. Roger loved to tinker with chainsaws and guns. He was a “Jack of all Trades” and mastered most of them. Roger will always be a man dearly loved by all who knew him.
Roger is survived by two sons, Rod Struve of Sabula and Russell Struve of Savanna; one daughter, Renee’ (Allen) Fitzwater of Clinton, Iowa; one brother, Larry (Janice) Struve of Sabula; one sister, Sue (Ron) Johnston of Savanna, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Ashley and Bradley Struve, Janee and Reece Struve, Alisha and Shane Kjormoe and Mercedes Fitzwater; three step-grandchildren, Eric, Lauren and David Fitzwater; two great- grand children, Haven and Isaiah Struve.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Gordon Struve.
