The daughter of Epa and Jennie (Kamphuis) Hook, Roberta Jean was born on October 30, 1925 in Fulton, IL. She married Merton P. Loomis on August 22, 1948, celebrating over 64 years of marriage. Roberta attended schools in Argo Fay and Thomson, and she graduated from Mt. Carroll High School. Upon her graduation in 1943, she was appointed Gas Stamp and Sugar Rationing Clerk in Carroll County during WWII, and was later appointed Deputy Circuit Clerk of Carroll County.
After her marriage, she was employed by the Department of Public Health; Northwestern Illinois Gas and Electric Company; Savanna Medical Center and finally, the Savanna Community Unit School District as head bookkeeper, under the administration of Bill Floyd for 22 years, until she retired in 1987. After retirement, she was appointed Treasurer of the Savanna School Board for 18 years.
Roberta was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (past president), VFW, Moose Lodge, and the 600 bowling club. She volunteered her time at the First United Methodist Church in the church office. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, crocheting, poker, traveling with her husband helping him navigate throughout the United States, with the Extra Miler Club. Most of all, she cherished time with her family.
In later years, as blindness set in and her other senses took over, her family learned many lessons from, and with her, for which they will be forever grateful.
Roberta will be deeply missed and remembered lovingly by her husband, Mert of Savanna; three daughters, Karen (Dennis) Harvilla, Lafayette, CO; Jean (George) Sammeth, Arvada, CO and Susan Loomis (Eugene Correa), Thornton, CO. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Stephanie and Heather Hensley; one grandson, Matthew Harvilla; one step-grandson, Andrew Sammeth; and a great-grandson, Nathaniel Hensley.
She was preceded in death by her parents Epa and Jennie Hook, an infant sister, Wilma Mae, and infant daughter, Tina Lee.
