Roberta L. Colehour Gaumond

June 26, 1931 — February 3, 2021

Roberta “Bobbie” Colehour Gaumond, age 89, of Freeport, IL, passed away February 3, 2021, at Parkview Home in Freeport. Inurnment will take place at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Mt. Carroll, IL.

Bobbie was born June 26, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Charles Warren and Lorraine (Wilske) Garvey. She attended Chicago schools, before attending Schimer College. While attending, she met her first husband Fred T. Colehour. Bobbie worked as a secretary for Interstate Power and Xerox, then became a real estate agent, before moving to Tucson, AZ, in 1973. In Tucson, she owned and operated Bobbie’s Indian Village for a number of years.

Bobbie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Elk Lodge. She loved to entertain, dance, attend social events, and travel. She was fortunate enough to make many memories doing so, throughout her life. She was also especially proud of her Irish heritage, which inspired her interest in ancestry research. She was able to successfully trace her roots back many generations.

Bobbie will be remembered to her spirited political and current event debates. She valued good conversation, but you had better know what you’re talking about, because she was an intelligent lady who knew her stuff! But her most famous attribute was surely her talent on the piano. She was a self-taught, superbly talented pianist. In her later years as she resided in the nursing home, she found peace an enjoyment, playing the piano in the common area, much to the delight of her fellow residents.

Bobbie will be dearly missed by her son, Jim Colehour, of Mt. Carroll, IL; daughter, Candice (Greg) Nieman, of Freeport, IL; four grandchildren, Patrick (Jamie Janssen) Simpson, Mt. Carroll, IL, Michael Simpson, of DeKalb, IL, Alexis Colehour, of Lanark, IL, and Warren Colehour, of Covington, KY; six great grandchildren, Justin, Mackenzie, Colin, Cadin, Caitlyn, and Natalie. Bobbie is preceded in death by her husband, George Gaumond, her parents, Charles Warren and Lorraine, and daughters, Linda Hitchins and Georgia Colehour.
