Robert Scott Sisler

Robert Scott Sisler, age 61, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 18, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Scott’s name.

Scott was born on August 21, 1964, the son of Robert E. Sisler and Beverly Becker. Although his family moved frequently during his early childhood, they returned to Mt. Carroll when Scott was ten years old. From that point on, Mt. Carroll was his home. He attended Mt. Carroll High School, where he was a standout athlete. A powerhouse on the track, Scott still holds the town records for the pole vault and the 4x100 relay.

Following his graduation in 1982, Scott met the love of his life, Cindy Lou Houston. They were united in marriage in May of 1987. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and devotion, raising three children and celebrating 38 years of marriage.

Scott was a man of legendary industriousness. It was often said that it would take six men to do the job Scott could do on his own. Whether he was at a job site or working on a personal project, he was a force of nature. Even as he became the "oldest guy" on the crew, he remained the fastest, especially when it came to shingling. He took immense pride in outworking everyone around him. Mechanically inclined and gifted with his hands, he could fix anything and spent countless hours in his garage working on old cars and motorcycles, always with rock music playing on the radio.

A practitioner of the motto "Waste not, want not," Scott was a collector who saw the value in what others might throw away. He was fiercely independent and preferred not to rely on anyone, yet he was the man everyone else depended on. He was loyal to a fault, a man of his word, and possessed a level of integrity that earned him the respect of all who knew him. He would truly give the last penny in his pocket to someone in need.

Outside of work, Scott found joy in the simple pleasures of home. He was a talented cook and baker, famous for making the best cookies and candy. He was also an avid gardener who took great pride in canning his own vegetables. Above all, Scott’s family was his life. He lived to support those he held close, and he shared a particularly special bond with his grandchildren.

Scott will be dearly missed by his wife, Cindy Lou Sisler of Mt. Carroll; three children, Joshua (Cami Jo) Houston Sr. of Savanna, Illinois, Jayson (Kelbi) Houston of Mt. Carroll, and Chelsey Sisler of Mt. Carroll; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Kacee) Houston Jr., Hunter Houston, Alexus Houston, Shianne Houston, Nevaeh Houston, Logan Houston, Harper Offill, and Braggston Sisler; and one great-grandchild, Avaya Houston. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly Hufman of Morrison, Illinois; his father, Bob (Darlene) Sisler of Mt. Carroll; and his siblings, Sheri (Dennis) Benters, Joseph (Cindy Lou Lopez-Sisler) Sisler, and Joshua Sisler, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Scott was preceded in death by his nephew, Jackson Kradle; many grandparents; his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Sally, and his step-father, James Hufman.
