Robert William Randecker, age 78 of Savanna, Illinois, died on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, Massbach, Illinois. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Massbach. A memorial fund has been established in Robert’s memory.
Robert was born on March 7, 1933, the son of William and Mildred (Endress) Randecker in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. He served his country in the United States Army for two years. Robert married Linda Ruth Walbohm on May 22, 1959 at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa.
Robert farmed in the area most of his life and later became a custodian for the Savanna High School for several years. He then worked at Elkay Manufacturing in Savanna before retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Massbach, where he was active on the church council and helped open graves by hand in the St. John Cemetery. Robert loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling around the country, gardening and hunting Morel mushrooms. He also enjoyed hunting deer, squirrels, raccoons, fishing and playing cards. Most of all, Robert loved spending time with his family.
Robert will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Linda of Savanna; one son, Rodney (Candy) Randecker of Stockton, Illinois; one daughter, Brenda Randecker of East Moline, Illinois; two granddaughters, Amanda (Jake Perry) Randecker and Ashley Randecker; two great granddaughters, Madalynn and Brooklynn Perry; one brother, Allen (Margaret) Randecker of Elizabeth, Illinois; two sisters, Ione (Fred) Mueller of Ridott, Illinois and Norma Randecker of Orangeville, Illinois; and one brother in-law, Harold Miller of Elizabeth.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Phyllis Jean Miller; and one nephew, Randy Gelwicks.
