Robert I. Mills, age 86, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2005 at the United Presbyterian Church in Hanover. Reverend Kendrick Matthews will officiate. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover.
Robert was born December 14, 1918, the son of Hugh A. and Lois (Steele) Mills, in Hanover, Illinois. Robert graduated Hanover High School, Class of 1936. On August 26, 1940, Robert married Charlotte M. McKinley. This union brought forth ten children. Robert and Charlotte were members of the United Presbyterian Church in Hanover; he was an Elder in the church for over sixty years.
Robert farmed in rural Hanover from 1939 till retirement in 1973. He also worked as a Professional Photographer from 1950 to 1956. From 1973 to 1990 Robert worked as an Independent Trucker for Dubuque Packing Company, transporting meat to the East Coast.
Robert will be deeply missed by his wife, Charlotte; seven sons, Carlton (Joan) Mills of Champaign, Illinois, J. Richard (Cheryl) Mills of Dixon, Illinois, Lt. Col. Peter Mills of McAlester, Oklahoma, James (Sharon) Mills of Savanna, Doug (Cathy) Mills of Alachua, Florida, Andrew Mills of Thomson, Illinois and Phillip (Lisa) Mills of Savanna; three daughters, Susan (Jackson) Greathouse of Reedy, West Virginia, Jane Rieman of Decatur, Illinois, and Debbie (Darrold) Kennedy of Savanna; Twenty-five grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister who died in infancy.
