Robert “Bob” McIntyre, age 95,a life-long resident near Savanna, IL, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Friday June 7, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, with a visitation held from 12 noon to 2pm, at the Church. Burial will follow the service at Lost Mound Cemetery, rural Hanover.
Bob was born November 4, 1928 in Savanna, the son of Jesse and Florence (Miller) McIntyre. Bob attended the Oak Grove Country School and the Savanna High School where he was an outstanding lineman on the football team. He went on to attend Western Illinois University where he also played football. In 1951, Bob married Edith Eileen Hamilton. They raised four sons, Lon, Jeff, Steve and Wayne, and celebrated 71 years of marriage until Eileen’s passing in 2022.
Bob grew up on the family farm, learning a strong work ethic and understanding the importance of neighbors. When he was young, it was common to use horses while farming, helping others in threshing wheat, and coming together as a neighborhood to put up a barn. One of Bob’s passion on the farm was to use the bulldozer, he was happiest when he could improve the ground and make it better for the future. He was farming and running the bulldozer into his nineties.
Bob believed in participating in his community and served on the Savanna School Board for many years, the Carroll County Farm Bureau, Mississippi Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He loved dancing with Eileen, they would hit up dance halls on the weekends and treated themselves to a private waltz through their own kitchen on many occasions. They also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
Bob loved watching his sons play football and wrestle, then when the grandchildren came, he also enjoyed attending their sporting events and plays. He was proud to have three of his sons still farming the family acreage.
Bob and Eileen loved to travel, taking trip after trip by car, exploring the United States. They’re pretty sure they hit 49 of the 50 states during their adventures, somehow never making their way to North Carolina.
Throughout life, he had a great partner with Eileen. For the last several years, Eileen struggled with
Alzheimer's disease. Her dear husband, Bob, stood dutifully and lovingly, by her side, making sure she got the care she needed. The last two years have been tough for him as he has missed Eileen, and the family rejoices that they are together again.
Bob will be dearly missed by four sons, Robert Lon McIntyre, of Hanover, IL, Jeffrey (Susan) McIntyre, of Savanna, Steven (Patricia) McIntyre, of Woodstock, Illinois, and Wayne (Rebecca) McIntyre, of Galena; nine grandchildren, John (Chrissy) McIntyre, of Savanna, Jill McIntyre, of Milledgeville, Wade (Savannah) McIntyre, of Madison, WI, Danielle (Tyler) Ohlendorf, of Savanna, Rachel (Wesley) Schlegel, of Wellington, CO, James (Kristen) McIntyre, of Memphis, Tennessee, Grace McIntyre, of Galena, Michael (Anela) McIntyre, of La Vernia, TX, Matthew (Mariah) McIntyre, of Burlington, WI; and seven great-children Drusiana McIntyre, Jack McIntyre, Maverick Ohlendorf, Griffin Ohlendorf, Sawyer June Schlegel, McKinley McIntyre, Cheyenne McIntyre and Brooks McIntyre; and one brother, Jesse (Donna) of Lakewood Park, FL.
