Robert B. Leighton, age 92, of Hanover, Illinois died Friday, November 5, 2010, at the Galena Stauss Nursing Home, Galena, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A memorial fund has been established in Roberta's memory.Robert was born on May 10, 1918, the son of Oakley and Grace (Adams) Leighton in Mt. Hope, Wisconsin. Robert served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Robert married Norma L. Enke on May 3, 1941 in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Norma died in Galena, Illinois on August 14, 2008.Robert first worked for the Conservation Corp in Wisconsin and later moved to Hanover. He worked as a foreman for Savanna Fabricators for twenty years and was later employed for an additional twenty-years at the Savanna Army Depot as a Locomotive Engineer, before retiring in 1974. He was a member of Hanover United Methodist Church and was a sixty-year member of the American Legion. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Most of all, Robert cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.Robert will be dearly missed by a son; Harvey (Lynn) Leighton of Hanover; three daughters, Doris (Harold) Haggerty of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Phyllis (Steve) Schneider of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Rosemary (the late Tom) Haring of Hanover; twelve grandchildren, Venus (Bill) Hilgart, Roxan (Kevin) Reas, Monica (Bill) Akers, Dena (Jeroen) Spaan, Dereck (Kim) Dillow, Dandy Dillow, Darra Riley, Darcie (Michael) Fuqua, Jody Haring, Brenda (Charles) Carafano, Tommy Haring Jr., and Christopher Haring, twenty-five great grandchildrenRobert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Maynard and Lynn; four sisters, Emily Kauffman, Mary Collins, Carol Behnecke and Shirley Leighton; and a son-in-law Tom Haring.
