Robert "Bob" L. Bastian

January 24, 1957 — May 28, 2018

Robert “Bob” L. Bastian age 61, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa with his loving family at his side. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Hanover United Methodist Church in Hanover. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Bob’s memory.
Bob was born on January 24, 1957 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Orville and Alice (Beadle) Bastian. He attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1975. Bob later attended the Morrison Technical School in Morrison, Illinois, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering. Bob worked for the Savanna Army Depot as a printer, until the Army Depot closed. He later went to work for Eagle Ridge in the Galena Territory, in room service. Bob took a lot of pride in this position and was even complemented by Newt Gingrich.
Bob married the love of his life Jolene Spahn on May 11, 1985 in Dubuque, Iowa. They celebrated 33 years of marriage. Bob was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge Kavanaugh Lodge #7 in Elizabeth, Illinois. He was also a Scout Leader for his children as they grew up. He enjoyed gardening and being an Entrepreneur. Also, he loved to play golf, frisbee, and making soy candles. Most of all, Bob truly loved the time he spent making his family smile.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Jolene; five children, Casey Bastian, Christopher (Brittany)Bastian of Eldridge, Iowa, Brittany (Nicholas) Drake of Dubuque, Ryan (Peggy Johnson) Bastian of Dubuque, Nicholas (Hailey Gooch) Bastian of Clinton, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Ben, Peyton, Adrian (Lucas) Bastian, Nathan and Elijah Drake, Brayden and Cooper Bastian; brother, Jack Bastian of Hazel Green, Wisconsin and a sister, V-Ann Howard of Elgin, Illinois. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
