Robert J. Horan

Robert J. Horan, age 85, of Shorewood, IL, formerly of Preston, IA, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 at Salud Wellness Nursing Home, in Joliet, IL. A graveside funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, in Preston, IA on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 2pm. A visitation will be held from 12pm to 2pm that day, at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Preston.

Robert was born May 29, 1936, in Charlotte, IA, the son of James and Marie (Schreiber) Horan. Growing up in the Charlotte area, he attended rural Catholic School in Sugar Creek. In 1957, Robert married Jeanette Starr. Together they had two children.

Robert worked as a truck driver for a number of years before settling into a career as a service technician for Lindie Gas, in Chicago, IL. Robert was a man of the Catholic faith and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He greatly enjoyed helping people and nothing made this more evident than his service with the Preston Fire Department. He was a long-time member of the department and served as Fire Chief for several years.

Robert will be dearly missed by his son, Michael and Debbie Horan, of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Gail Marie Horan, of DeWitt, IA; brothers, Dale Horan, of Bellevue, IA and Gary Horan, of Charlotte, IA; sisters, Betty Kirst, of Fulton, IL and Mary Burken, of Preston, IA. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Horan; former wife Jeanette Horan; Francis Horan, Donnie Horan, and Linda Horan.
