Robert D. “Hootch” Walker, age 89 of Savanna, Illinois, died on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Cremation Rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna with Reverend Sejoon Jang officiating. A memorial fund has been established in Hootch’s memory.
Robert was born on October 1, 1923, the son of Perryman and Pearl (Spencer) Walker in Rock Falls, Illinois. He attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert married Carole Jacquelyn “Jackie” Cassell on April 18, 1949.
Robert worked in construction for Sterling Steel Mill, Sterling, Illinois. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and gardening. Most of all, Hootch loved spending time with his family and friends.
Robert will be dearly missed by his wife, Jackie of Savanna; four daughters, Pam Cleary of Broomfield, Colorado, Jody (Mike) Holesinger of Erie, Colorado, Meg Weiland of Holland, Michigan and Kim Bundy of Savanna; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Adelbert Walker.
