Robert John Frahm, age 89, of Miles, IA, passed away in his home, in the care of his family, on January 26, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 30, at Miles Presbyterian Church. Visitation will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, January 29, at Law Jones Funeral Home in Preston, IA, as well as one hour prior to the church service, at Miles Presbyterian Church.
Bob was born October 17, 1935, in Clinton, IA, the son of Alvin and Lillian (Hansen) Frahm. He graduated from Miles High School with the class of 1953, and went right to work, full time, on the family farm. On July 20, 1958, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Carol Sue Schultz, at Miles Presbyterian Church. Upon returning home from their honeymoon, Bob was notified he had been drafted into the United States Army, where he would dutifully serve for two years, as a drummer in the Army band. Funnily enough, Bob and Carol hadn’t figured out where their marital home was going to be, so being drafted answered the question for them. His new bride followed him to Colorado Springs, for training, and has been by his side ever since.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Bob resumed his hard work on the family farm; and before long, he and Carol purchased additional land. His family’s dedication to that land has lasted for more than 100 years. Countless memories were made by Bob and Carol, and later their children and grandchildren, on their farm.
Bob was a proud member of the Isaac Walton League, the Mariners Church Group, AMVETS, and the Preston Gun Club. He was an accomplished marksman, competing in numerous gun tournaments, and attending many more. He volunteered many hours to the local 4H club, as a leader, and taught gun safety courses for kids. In his free time, he enjoyed golf and fishing, especially after “retirement”. The quotation marks are necessary because we all know, you never really retire from farming!
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Carol; daughters, Sheralyn (Daniel) Bartels, of Clinton and Leah (Dennis) Robinson, of Neosho, MO; sons, Gary (Tracy Fuchs) Frahm, of Miles and Michael Frahm, of Miles; daughter-in-law, Bristi Frahm, of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Janine, Beth, Matt, Dyllan, Jaime, Cache, Trane, and Malachi; and five great-grandchildren, Norah, Atticus, Ronin, Declan, and Riley. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lillian; and two sisters, Jeanette (Stewart) Wilson, and Dorothy (Fred) Stickler.
