Robert F. Canty, Jr.

Robert F. “Bob” Canty Jr., age 79, of Sabula, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois.

Bob was born on March 12, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Robert and Pearl (Garrison) Canty Sr. He grew up in the city and graduated from high school in Chicago before answering the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably aboard the USS Cambria, a transport ship, during the Vietnam War.

Following his military service, Bob built a successful career as an electrical engineer with Commonwealth Edison in Crystal Lake, Illinois. His work ethic, attention to detail, and calm, thoughtful nature earned him the respect of his colleagues over the years. After retiring, Bob relocated to Sabula, Iowa, where he enjoyed the peaceful riverside town and made many lasting friendships.

Bob will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and the deep care he showed to those close to him. He shared many happy years with his beloved companion, Mary Helen Shear of Sabula, and together they enjoyed a simple, meaningful life surrounded by friends and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pearl Canty Sr. Bob will be dearly missed by Mary, and by the many friends whose lives he touched with kindness and humility.
