Robert Leroy. “Bob” Mader, age 86, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at home. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service is being planned in the spring. Letters and cards may be sent to his family at 103 W. State St. Apt. #4, Mt. Carroll, Illinois 61053. Bob was born November 22, 1923 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Leroy Edwin “Roy” and Cora (Keltner) Mader. He grew up on the family farm north of Mt. Carroll in Berreman Twp., he always remembers the days that work horses were used to farm when he was a young boy. Bob attended Sage Country School in Woodland Twp. and graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1942. On November 25, 1944, Bob married Jeanne Elizabeth Neuschwanger in Freeport, Illinois.
Bob worked on the family farm until 1985; he served as Mt. Carroll Chief of Police from 1966 through 1973, when he became known as "Fuzzy", a Security Guard at Lake Carroll from 1973 until 1985 and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad in Savanna. Bob enjoyed listening to Rock & Roll music, he liked cats and dogs and enjoyed days spent down at the Mississippi river with family and friends.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife Jeanne Mader of Mt. Carroll; a son, Lee (Peggy) Mader of Albany, Missouri; two daughters, Sharon Mader of Savanna and Cynthia Mader of Mt. Carroll; four grandchildren, Leaan (Brad) Allison, Earl (fiancé, Jill) Mader, Elizabeth Jeanne Sweitzer and Rachel Christine Sweitzer; and three great grandchildren, Michael, Nathan and Bryan Mader.
Bob was preceded in death by both parents; and an infant granddaughter, Essie Jane Sweitzer.
