Rita Devon (Glenn) Port, age 75, of Lanark, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Allure Nursing Center in Mt. Carroll, following a 26-year battle with multiple sclerosis and myasthenia gravis.
Rita was born on September 8, 1950, in Freeport, Illinois, to Ralph and Margaret (Newcomer) Glenn. She grew up in the Lanark area and would later spend much of her life living just a few houses down from the home where she was raised. She graduated from Lanark High School with the Class of 1968.
On September 21, 1968, Rita married her high school sweetheart, Dale Port, at the Lanark Church of the Brethren. Together they shared 57 years of marriage before Dale preceded her in death on December 15, 2025. Rita dedicated her life to being a loving wife and mother as they raised their two children, Tamara and Darrick.
Rita worked as a secretary and receptionist during her career but found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She was a faithful member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren.
She enjoyed attending estate sales and auctions with Dale, spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandson, and planning educational summer family vacations to historic places throughout the country. Those trips became treasured memories and were a reflection of her love and devotion to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Port; her parents, Ralph and Margaret Glenn; and her aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tamara (Brent) Fitzgerald of Eubank, Kentucky; her son, Darrick (Christie) Port of Lanark; her brother, Royal “Del” (Debbie) Glenn of West Bend, Wisconsin; her sister, Ronda Glenn of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three granddaughters, Megan (Dakota) Miller of Stockton, Averie Port of Lanark, and Emma Port of Milledgeville, along with one great-grandson, Tucker Andrew Jakobs of Milledgeville; along with three nieces, two great-nephews, and many extended family members and friends. Rita will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A public visitation will be held 4 to 7 PM Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Lanark. A private service with burial in the Lanark Cemetery will take place the following day.
