Rita Miller

Rita R. Miller, age 84 of Savanna, Illinois, died on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna prior to the mass. A memorial fund has been established in Rita’s memory.
Rita was born February 1, 1930, the daughter of Frank H. and Maude (Darr) McDonnell in Savanna. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1947. On December 10, 1949, Rita married the love of her life Robert “Sliver” Miller in Savanna. Sliver died on September 21, 1991.
Rita worked as a bookkeeper for several Savanna businesses retiring in 1965. She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi. Rita was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Moose. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, cross words. Most of all she cherished the time she spent with her family especially her children and grandchildren.
Rita will be dearly missed by her two sons, Glen (Laurie) Miller of Indianapolis, Indiana, David (Cathy) Miller of Savanna; one daughter, Amy (Richard) James of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a sister, Judith (Harry) Pearce of Deer Park, Wisconsin. Rita is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sliver; two brothers, George “Robert” McDonnell, Thomas McDonnell and a sister, Lois Ellinor.
