Rick A. Hebeler

September 21, 1957 — February 27, 2016

Rick A. Hebeler was born in Savanna, IL on September 21, 1957, the son of Kenneth and Ida (Lambert) Hebeler. Rick passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday February 27, 2016 in Emporia, Kansas.
Rick graduated in 1975 from Thomson Community High School in Thomson, IL. After high school, Rick began his career in the nuclear industry. Initially as a temporary contractor with Westinghouse Instrument Division at the Wolf Creek plant in Kansas. Rick then went to Augusta, Georgia at the Vogtle Plant. He returned to Wolf Creek as a permanent employee in the procurement engineering department. At the time of his passing, he had worked twenty six and a half years at Wolf Creek.
One of Rick’s favorite pastimes was to hang with his friends at the local watering hole (Town Royal). “Where Everyone Knew His Name”. Rick was very proud of his 1998 S-10 pickup which had nearly 360K miles and is still going strong. Not only did Rick take pride in his truck, the same applied to his home. There was a place for everything and everything had its place.
His positive outlook on life and personality touched many people’s lives. He will be dearly missed by his family, co-workers and many friends.
He is survived by his son, Martey Hebeler and fiancée Danielle Cox, Chanute, KS; Mother, Ida Hebeler – Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna IL; brothers, Steve Hebeler – Thomson, IL; Ron (Pam) Hebeler of Fulton, IL; sisters, Janet Hebeler of Hanford, CA; Penny (Jack) Schlanser of Indianapolis, IN; one niece, Emily (Kyle) Ambroso of Peoria, IL; and one nephew, Chris (Tara) Hebeler of San Diego, CA. He is preceded in death by his father.
Cremation is planned. A gathering of remembrance with family and friends will be held at Town Royal at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A Time of Sharing led by Michael Foltz will be held at 6:00 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home. Afterward, the family invites all to join them at the Sand Trap Bar at Sandburr Run Golf Course, Thomson to continue sharing stories and celebrating Rick’s life. Memorials may be made in Rick's memory to Central Care Cancer Center, 1401 West 12th Avenue, Emporia KS 66801.
