Richard Wunderlich loved his family, served his country, worked hard, and enjoyed fishing with family and friends. At the age of 81, Richard passed away Monday, December 14, 2015, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, with Reverend Michael Jones of Bethel United Methodist Church of Shannon officiating.
Richard was born December 11, 1934 in Chicago, the son of Henry August and Lillian (Tonnemann) Wunderlich. He attended Amundsen High School, Chicago with the Class of 1954. Richard served in the US Army overseas in Korea. On August 25, 1990, Richard married Gloria Baltzersen. They celebrated twenty-five years of marriage.
While living in the Chicago area, Richard worked twenty-five years at the Al Piemonte Ford Dealership in Melrose Park as a Service Manager, retiring in 1999. He was one of the founding members of Salmon Unlimited in Chicago. After retirement, his love for fishing, drew he and Gloria to Lake Carroll. They have enjoyed fifteen years with the Lake Carroll Community, and on many days you could find Richard cleaning his catch or working in the yard. Richard honored his military service with his membership in the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Richard will be dearly missed by his wife, Gloria; three children, Richard (Deborah) Wunderlich of North Lake,, IL, Laura Altertott of Elgin, IL and Joy (Bob) Meyers of Union, IL; two step-children, Mark (Tricia) Baltzersen of Algonquin, IL and Laura (Glenn) Taylor of Woodland Hills, CA; twelve grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
