Richard L. Schleuning, Sr., age 73, of Chadwick, Illinois, passed away suddenly while harvesting crops on Monday, November 23, 2009 in rural Chadwick. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, with Reverend Melwin Alagodi and Reverend Dave Davies officiating. Burial will be in the Chadwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick. A memorial fund has been established in Richard’s name.
Richard was born February 1, 1936, in Freeport, Illinois the son of Harold and Luella (Kloepping) Schleuning. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School and graduated from Chadwick High School, Class of 1954. Richard served in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. On September 11, 1959 Richard married Darlene Kuhse.
Richard grew up on the family farm near Chadwick and continued farming for the rest of his life. He worked awhile for Handel Implement in Chadwick. Richard is a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick. He was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge #2223; and the Chadwick American Legion. Richard loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting with friends and having coffee at Millers.
Richard will be deeply missed by his three daughters, Tina Marie Schleuning (Jim Allen) of Freeport, Joy Bull (Jerry Miller) of Springfield, Illinois and Dawn (Ron) Hastings of Savanna, Illinois; one son, Rich (Susie) Schleuning, Jr. of Chadwick; nine grandchildren, James, Mindy(Ken Koester) and Kristy Allen, Paul and Melissa Schleuning, Caleb and Adam Hastings, Tyler Todd and Ramsey Miller; two great grandchildren, Destiny Hottinger and Jesse Morrison; and a sister, Mary Duffy of Rock Falls, Illinois and a special friend, Lucy Lantz. Richard is preceded in death by wife, Darlene; a son, Paul; grandson, William Allen; Brother, Robert;both parents; and son in-law, Donnie Bull.
